Prayer for the Faithful Departed

O God of infinite goodness, who are pleased to be called Father, through the merits of your beloved Son, Jesus, I come before you with great confidence, on behalf of my departed relatives and friends. You brought them to life through grace, and sustained them always in your love. Now that their pilgrimage on earth is ended, bring to completion the desire you held from the beginning for their happiness. In your great mercy, free them from any stain of sin and from every obstacle which may keep them from contemplating you in the fullness of joy as your children.

Dear Saint Nicholas, whose intercessions on behalf of the faithful departed was so wondrously acceptable to the Father, join me in prayer. Once more, ask our loving Father to grant eternal life, happiness, peace and light to all of the dead and especially those for whom I now pray . . . . .

Another Prayer for the Faithful Departed

Dear Saint Nicholas, you were so attentive to the pleas of many needy souls and, through your prayer and penance, you hastened their enjoyment of the vision of God. Look with compassion on my beloved dead, and obtain for them by your prayers the full forgiveness of their sins, so that they may experience the happiness and peace of the Father's presence. Amen.

Prayer in Time of Sickness

O God, Father and Source of life, I praise and thank you for the gift of my being, for the joy of life, for the gifts of nature and grace which you have bestowed upon me. In this time of pain and suffering, I look to you, good and merciful Father: hear this prayer of mine as I seek your help and compassion.

Saint Nicholas, my beloved protector, I have recourse to your powerful intercession before God for my health. Be near me especially at this moment; obtain for me from the Lord the loving acceptance of His will, and peace of mind and heart. I trust that through your intercession my health will be restored.
